They Wrestled With God

Ron Kittel

God is not an object to be studied but rather a reality to be experienced; not a substance to be proved or disproved, but a presence with which we have to wrestle and with which we must come to terms. In this class we will study the Biblical accounts of some who actually experienced God in this way. We will analyze the stories of such figures as Jacob, Moses, Jonah, Job, and others, in an attempt to discover how and why their depth of encounter with God resonates with what we experience in our time &mdash individually and nationally &mdash and what is the continuing pattern (or archetype) for this kind of encounter with God.

Ron holds a Doctorate of Theology in New Testament studies and was an interim minister for the UCC in Connecticut. He also teaches and lectures, and he operates a sheep farm with his wife in the NY Catskill Mountains.
