Rev. Dr. Rochelle Stackhouse
The Psalter is the prayerbook of the Bible, encompassing the full range of human emotion and experience. These prayers have been a resource for Jews, Christians, Muslims, and even those without a formal religious affiliation. We will briefly discuss the composition of the psalms and different translations, but we will spend most of our time looking at ways to pray the psalms. We’ll explore ways to speak them. We’ll listen to and sing music, remembering the saying that “one who sings prays twice.” We’ll explore ancient and modern body positions for prayer. We may even write our own psalms. Participants will receive the resources to make these prayers their own.
Shelly has a PhD in Liturgy and is the pastor of Church of the Redeemer UCC, New Haven, CT.
